Gay Dinner Theater

Hello,

My husband and I go to NYC every year for our anniversary. We were watching the Birdcage the other night and thought it would be go to an establishment like they have in the movie.

Does anyone know of a gay dinner theater in NYC?

Thanks.

Gay Dinner Theater

Closest place i know is Lips restaurant:

www.lipsnyc.com

has transsexual waiters and majority gay clientele (moreso than Lucky Cheng%26#39;s, it%26#39;s adversary). Dunno of any place exactly like that in Birdcage.

Gay Dinner Theater

There won%26#39;t be anything ';exactly'; like the Bridcage (have to go to South Beach and Las Vegas for that).

Lipps and Lucky Cheng%26#39;s serve dinner (if that%26#39;s what you want to call their food) and cater to straight people, bachelorette parties, etc. Most other places wiith drag shows are bars. Call ahead to get a sense of the show. It depends on the night of the week.

Search HX or NEXT magazine when you%26#39;re here. They are freebie magazines available in gay bars and neighborhoods (W. Village, Chelsea).

When you call, ask if their drag show features many performers, celebrity impersonation, or just one solo act (so to speak).

Wow QUEENS-blvd, I am impressed :)

Ditto!

Uh, oh. Now EVERYONE will want to go!

QB is there something you want to tell us? ;0)

Actually I%26#39;ll date myself and say there used to be a place called the Blue Angel on east 54 st. that was very much like the Birdcage. It burnt down and was never resurrected.

I would caution zyanya about eating in these places. QB do you know whether the food is ok?

I remember the Blue Angel!

Of course, I was also what was affecionately known in the %26#39;80s as a f-hag.

It was an affectionate term, wasn%26#39;t it?

What about Marie%26#39;s Crisis?

Marie%26#39;s Crisis, Rose%26#39;s Turn, Duplex, etc.: Those are piano bars, so I didn%26#39;t put it in the ';Birdcage'; category.

Lipps and Lucky Chengs are the only places I know of that always have drag performers and also serve food (which you cover up with the alcohol.)

Helen%26#39;s in Chelsea has drag shows every so often, but not always, and also serves food. Call to see if Jimmy James is performing.

Don%26#39;t Tell Mama sometimes has drag shows, but no food.

The rest of the ones I listed are bars.

Here is a nice list of piano bars and cabarets from 2002 (not necessarily drag), except for the fact that the word ';gay'; is never used in the entire article. False advertising? Sloppy editor? Homophobic?Or just big surprise for patrons?

Porsche also performs every Wednesday at OW Bar. Not dinner theater, but a guy in a wig singing Janis Joplin LIVE!
