Just wondering if it is difficult to get to Jersey Gardens by car from Manhattan. I know the bus is cheap and frequent but there is also a big Toys r Us and a Walmart and an Ikea nearby that I wouldnt mind seeing if it was possible.

There is a bus that takes you from the Port Authority to the Ikea in Elizabeth, NJ for free on the weekends. It leaves every half an hour, it鈥檚 a very quick trip and you can鈥檛 beat the price. If you can avoid renting a car it鈥檚 going to save you lots of headaches.

I think the Walmart you%26#39;re talking about is the one in Harmon Meadow in Secaucus which is accessible by bus #320 from Port Authority.
There isn%26#39;t any reason to rent a car when the buses work just as well and are less expensive.
If you are going to be hopping from store to store with bags in tow, a car would make sense then.
