In NYC with kids on 9 and 12 years

We are a family coming to NYC for 5 days staying in Brooklyn. Any advice for kids stuff?

Can you be a little more specific? Dates you%26#39;ll be here, tastes and preferences, where in Brooklyn...?

For starters, here is a great (long) trip report by vikingtim about touring NYC with kids:

In Brooklyn, check out

Prospect Park and the Prospect Park Zoo

Park Slope (one of the neighborhoods that%26#39;s next to Prospect Park) is lovely for strolling, people-watching and shopping.

This interactive map shows what%26#39;s on each street.

Brooklyn Museum - If you%26#39;re here on the first Saturday of the month, the museum is free and open late from 5 - 11 pm. Great kids activities.

Check what%26#39;s playing at Brooklyn Academy of Music. This might be a little serious for young kids...

I haven%26#39;t been to the Brooklyn Children%26#39;s Museum in years, so I can%26#39;t review it, but here is their website:

Here is a good general site about Brooklyn

Good luck!

Thank you very much for your suggestions. They look all very interesting.

Just for the information - we are staying in Mid October and I am looking for events a little different from the usual ones like Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, UN building. Something where the children could take an active part - like the museum suggested (Brooklyn%26#39;s Children Museum) - so thank you for that one.

The Whispering Gallery is a 5 minute diversion to check out while you are in Grand Central. On the lower level, right outside the Oyster Bar two walkways intersect. This intersection forms a square %26#39;room%26#39;, with an arched ceiling. If you stand in the corner (facing the wall), and whisper, a person in the diagonal corner can hear you, as if you were standing right next to them. Fun for all ages, and just takes a minute to do if your already there to see Grand Central.
