Thanksgiving in NYC?

Hi,

I%26#39;ll be in NYC for thanksgiving, as part of a trip travelling round the US and canada.

I was wondering if anyone has any recomendations as to what to do or where to go to have a good, but cheap, day!

This will be my first experience of thanks giving - being from the UK - and I%26#39;ll be travelling by myself so I%26#39;d like to do something that accomadates the lone traveller!!

cheers

Andy

The big activity is the Macy%26#39;s Parade down Broadway on T%26#39;giving day. The night before people go to the upper west side to watch the balloons being blown up. It%26#39;s a mob scene for both but very fun. Bring warm clothes!!! Here%26#39;s the details (from last year so dates are off but info is the same)

There are a number of English restaurants where you might find some fellow countrymen. Here%26#39;s a list with reviews

Besides the parade and eating a big turkey meal, NYers watch football and go to the movies. Shops are closed on the Thurs. but Friday, the day after is the biggest shopping day of the year with many stores like Macy%26#39;s opening at 7am.

Some people use the holiday to volunteer to help those less fortunate whether at a soup kitchen, a nursing home etc.
