We are an Aussie family of 4 (2 teenage daughters) and need help in finding a local tour company that has tours out of New York that include Washington. We would like to spend a couple of nights in Washington and can end the tour there or back in New York. Travel date would be 13th December.
Tours to Washington 3/4 days
I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll need a tour. Are you wanting to visit other sites in between NYC and DC?
It wouldn%26#39;t be hard at all to book hotels in NYC and DC and use the Gray Line bus tours once you are in each city.
But there are escorted bus companies.

Assuming you don%26#39;t plan on visiting cities between NYC and DC, you can very easily take an Amtrak train to Union Station in DC. DC is very accessible by metro (subway) which is also very safe. Many of the sites are within walking distance of each other or a stop or two away on the metro. While you could sign up for a tour, I think it%26#39;s not necessary. Go onto the DC forum on tripadvisor and request some itineraries.
I agree a tour isn%26#39;t necessary FROM NYC. Arrange your own treansportation (plane, train, bus or rent a car). Bus fares are as cheap as $35/person ROUNDTRIP!! There%26#39;s a luxury bus called limoliner.com that%26#39;s another option. There are lots of previous posts here on the options of getting between the 2 cities if you do a text search. Pick a hotel of YOUR choice. Then you can decide to do a bus tour or more once you get to Washington.
Grayline, the company that runs the hop on/off tours in the cities does a Washington package that includes transport between the 2 cities, but I think you%26#39;re paying a premium just for the convenience of them making the arrangements. You%26#39;ll wind up with a better hotel etc. if you do it on your own I think.
