Help with my Itinerary
WOW after reading what you want to see - I was so tired I almost didn%26#39;t have the strength to write this.
Very ambitious, I see you want to go to both Gray%26#39;s Papaya and Papaya King, why? They%26#39;re both hot dog joints, nothing special. And H%26amp;H Bagels after going to Zabar%26#39;s?????
You certainly have enough time - see what you can, don%26#39;t go crazy if you miss something. Seems like you have a guidebook, get a good map and you should be OK.
Help with my Itinerary
Just make sure you leave yourself time to wander around and get the feel on NY - IMHO if you stick rigidly to a schedule you will miss the vibe of the city.
';Greenwhich Village p117 (maybe boring) *';
Boring? %26#39;splain please?
DUMBO is boring, IMHO...
Throw away your guidebook and feel the pulse of the city instead.
Re Coney Island - the amusement parks will be closed by that point. (or, at best, they%26#39;d only be open on weekends, weather permitting)
Yes, Brighton Beach (Little Odessa) is interesting, and the elevated subway ride is a nice way to see Brooklyn, but do it you have free time to relax - not if you%26#39;re on a tight schedule.
Re Roosevelt Island Tram - this is not near the Upper West Side, Zabar%26#39;s etc. The tram is on the east side - 60th St, near Bloomingdales, etc. Ride it while you%26#39;re waiting to get called for Serendipity%26#39;s, and doing other Upper East Side things.
Remember - Many stores on the Lower East Side close early on Fridays and are closed Saturdays.
Hi, new to sf. I think that, in the format that you%26#39;ve used to display your places of interest, you%26#39;ve left us all feeling rather overwhelmed! If I might make a suggestion. You%26#39;ve got 14 days in NYC, why not start by choosing a different suburb for each day and see how that looks? Manhattan is actually quite small compared to many of the worlds major cities and getting around is relatively easy given the fact that many places are within walking distance and the subway/bus system is very efficient. If you can start to put some flesh on the bone then everyone will get a much better idea of what you%26#39;re trying to achieve and I%26#39;m sure will offer a lot of help.
I have a saying which I use a lot. Q. ';How do you eat an elephant?'; A. ';A bit at a time.'; I think that all we can see at the moment is the elephant! If you can break it down into bite size pieces, the good folks round here will help you with the rest.
There%26#39;s a few things you can skip and not regret, IMHO:
1. Little Korea - go if you want Korean food or have a restaurant in mind. Otherwise, it is a pretty dead area. I always think of it as the ';back lot'; to Macy%26#39;s and Madison Square Garden. Good restaurants, but it%26#39;s mostly hotels and wholesale stores.
2. Veniero%26#39;s pastries - personally, not my favorite. I like the French bakery on 2nd Av. and 11th across the street (can%26#39;t remember th name because I know it by sight only.)
3. Flushing - Visiting will take about 3-4 hours (45 min to 1 hour each way commute, plus exploring.), so do it on an emptier day. The subway ride out there is half the fun! Great views of the city (not just ';The City'; aka Manhattan).
If you go, it%26#39;s better if you have a specific recommendation of somewhere to eat or see there. It%26#39;s a residential/commercial area, so you%26#39;re into seeing where people live and their daily shopping, etc.
Bring a street map (like Hagstrom%26#39;s) or MTA bus map of Queens because it is easy to get lost.
