Sunday Buffet Brunch

I am looking for a really nice Sunday Buffet Brunch. The Waldorf used to have one, but no longer has one. This is for December 5.

Sunday Buffet Brunch

Buffet brunches are not as popular in NYC as in other cities. Here%26#39;s one at Brasserie 8 1/2

Cafe Botanica in the Essex House has a partial buffet where you order your entree from the menu but have buffet choices for appetizers and desserts. BB Kings gospel brunch on Sunday is a buffet I think.

I forgot, Aquavit is a beautiful Scandinavian restaurant and I think has a smorgasbord type of weekend brunch.

We were also looking for Sunday Buffet%26#39;s in February of this year, and came up with 3 choices:

1 - Fives at the Peninsula Hotel (this is where we ended up going) - they had a full buffet with omelets, seafood, desserts... Everything was delicious and it was a smaller intimate scale - we paid $50 per person plus more for tip, tax, and drinks (juice, coffee, mimosa%26#39;s were not included). It was very classy...

2 - Aquavit has some kind of smorgasbord buffet (was quoted $39 for the brunch over the phone)... I have not gone, but it sounded nice too...

3 - Rainbow Room sometimes has a brunch I think - previous post mentions this also... The view is stunning (we were there for dinner)

Actually, our favorite sunday brunch place no longer exists - it was the Peacock Alley at the Waldorf Astoria - It is such a shame that it closed after the Waldorf became a part of the Hilton hotel chain and they closed Peacock alley down... We still talk about the brunches we used to have there!!

-May

Generally, brunch is not as good in NYC as other dining experiences.

Please strongly reconsider going to the Rainbow Room for brunch. In his book, Kitchen Confidential, Chef Anthony Bourdain goes into detail about how scraps and leftovers are covered in aspic and other tricks they take to make leftovers appealing for their high priced brunch. Not very inviting.

Balthazar and it%26#39;s sister restaurant Pastis have good brunches. Advance reservations are absolutely a must. Check out menupages.com for more info.

Voyagereuse - WOW! I didn%26#39;t know that about the Rainbow Room - very scary!! thank god we went for dinner and everything looked whole and in one piece (not leftovers!)

I%26#39;m looking for an elegant sunday brunch at a hotel. The Intercontinental hotel and the Hotel Caryle use to have it would you please let me know if any fine hotel in NYC still has it.

This is for March or April 2006.

Thank You.

Mary M.

The Carlyle still has it.
