Newark to Times Square

Can anyone give any help regarding getting from Newark airport to Times Square.

I think we have decided theat a taxi would be the best option.

Are they easy to find? Do we need to negotiate a price before we get in?

Newark to Times Square

A taxi from Manhattan to Newark is a flat rate (around $50). Tip is not included. At the airport, there will be several taxi stands - just line up and hop in! A very easy alternative (if you want to save a few dollars) is to take the bus from Newark to Port Authority (right in Times Square). From the baggage claim department, there will be signs inside directing you to the far end of the terminal- the buses are parked outside in an adjacent lot. You can buy a ticket on board, I believe it%26#39;s $10-12. They run every 10-30 minutes, and you don%26#39;t need to make a reservation.

Newark to Times Square

Just thought I%26#39;d add that we took the bus mentioned above in April and it was excellent - much better than the shuttle bus we took the first time! The round-trip price was 20 USD / person and it was great value.

You can get a taxi but many people prefer ordering a car service from Newark with a fixed price. I think (but am not sure) taxi prices can fluctuate. The 2 cos. that are reasonably priced are Carmel and Tel Aviv (camellimo.com and telavivlimo.com) Their prices are posted on their websites. Tolls from Newark are about $8 and tips are generally 15-20% of the car price (not including the toll). If you%26#39;re more than 4 people, use Crown limo (1800mycrown.com) who%26#39;ll send a stretch limo for 6 people that should cost about $75-85.

There are shuttle buses that go to Port Authority bus terminal which is 42 st %26amp; 8th ave. If you%26#39;re staying at the Westin or the Hilton Times Square it%26#39;s almost across the street. These are $15/person.

From the airport, you can also take the ';Airtrain.'; It is a monorail that links up with NJ Transit/Amtrack, which will take you into NY Penn Station. From there, 1 stop up on the subway is the ';Times Square'; area. Total cost should be no more than $15.00/person. The train ride is 15 minutes and the subway, depending upon the wait, is 5-10 minutes.

A taxi from Newark will have a fixed price which the controller will tell you before you get in, You tell him where you are going and he gives you a ';receipt'; thingy. You actually pay the driver when you get there with the toll charges and tip, but it means the driver cant rip you off. It cost us $60 in total to travel from Newark to the Belvedere which is just off Times Square.

Great thanks for all your advice.

Did you visit recently Angelica?

Last October, hoping to get back next March/April - busy saving. Absolutely loved NY.

we got back yesterday and on previous advice on trip advisor used tel aviv - they were excellent.

The price is pretty much the same as a cab ( we paid $49 + tip + $8 toll for a luxury sedan) and are more luxurious.

You reserve in advance and can pay then on credit card or in cash on the day.

Once you have your bags, simply ring tel aviv and they send a car within 7 mins they said - ours arrived in 5 !!!

I think I had also read on a previous thread that New York cabs dont operate at Newark because Newark is in New Jersey - dont know if they makes a difference - a New York expert might be able to help.

ps...if you have to get a taxi, get a water taxi from the downtown piers or brooklyn - only $5 and you get a great view of Manhatten
