family of 5 for two weeks in January

my eyes are sore and my brain is foggy. please someone tell me the best deal for doubletree times square or salisbury or any other place for parents with three teenagers. Also, is it crazy freezing at that time. Any snow in the city?

how can we know the best deals?

only you know the dates you%26#39;ll be here

go to the hotel websites and do a search on the dates you%26#39;ll be in town

It will be freezing at that time of year and I would think a good chance of some snow which may restrict your plans.

sidestep.com is a website that shows you which websites have the best deals. It%26#39;s not infallible but a good place to start. For those 2 hotels though, I%26#39;d also think the hotels%26#39; own websites would be as good as you%26#39;ll get.

But for 2 weeks, you might want to consider an apartment. A few websites for that are

citylightsnewyork.com

furnishedquarters.com

liveinnyc.com

You might also like to consider splitting your stay in 2 locations whether in apartment or hotel. The Embassy Suites downtown might be a good choice for a downtown location. You should also consider the Radio City Apartments in midtown (radiocityaparments.com)

With 3 teens, I%26#39;d urge you to consider something with at least 2 baths. ;) The Salisbury and I think Radio City have 2 bedroom 2 bath suites.

wunderground.com is a website that will give you historical temperatures for any given month. It does get cold in January. Dressing in layers in best.

thanks for the info. do you think we%26#39;re crazy to come to that kind of weather. can you get around the city easily. we always come in summer in the sweltering heat.

I dont think to go to NY at that time of year. NY is brillant at any time of year. Just come prepared and bring lots of layers. Things like get to girls to wear wooly tights under trackies or jeans. Is it your only option besides coming in the summer.

NY is beautiful in Jan. It鈥檚 cold (sometimes it takes my breath away) and it gets dark around 4pm but it鈥檚 not a time of year when the city is completely covered with other tourists and the snow (and I can almost guarantee you鈥檒l get it that time of year) is so pretty on a still night. Of course, as soon as traffic hits that snow it鈥檚 a dirty, slushy mess - but with the right boots it won鈥檛 get you down and you鈥檒l be jumping over slush puddles in no time.

If it were me I鈥檇 be researching an apartment someplace below 14th Street. I know why so many tourists want to stay in TS but the area is low on warm cafes loaded with locals, pubs playing whatever game on TV (as long as they serve food it鈥檚 normal to take kids into pubs), and it basically lacks that cozy sort of feeling I鈥檓 looking for on a cold winter day. Since your kids are older, and since you鈥檒l be here for 2 weeks, I think it would be fun to experience a neighborhood that people live in and to get to know the subways. When I entertain teens from out of town (I鈥檝e got lots of younger cousins and siblings) the LES is always their favorite neighborhood.

Bring silk long underwear. It%26#39;s the best.

from where would i get silk long underwear
