Apartment for a week in Upper East Side

Hi guys %26amp; gals,

Me and 3 friends are planning our next visit to NY for around May time and we%26#39;re currently thinking about renting an apartment for a week as opposed to staying in an hotel.

We%26#39;d like to stay around the Upper East Side area but willing to try somewhere else based on your expert input.

Budget is a maxium of 拢400 (c$730) per night

Look forward to all your advice!

There are a number of websites with short term apartment rentals. Curious to know why you picked the ues though? It%26#39;s not usually an area chosen other than by those wanting to spend time at the museums. How old are you? I%26#39;d also say with that budget you could easily do a very nice hotel if you wanted to. The Surrey is an all suite hotel on the ues that has 1 bedroom suites but I don%26#39;t think they have 2 bedroom suites. Look on affinia.com for Surrey info.

Hi NYWhiz,

We will be spending some time at museums however we%26#39;ll also be spending some time shopping, checking out the wonderful restaurants and maybe catch a broadway show.

If you have a better location I%26#39;d be more than happy to hear your views. What about other areas? Any reliable websites to check out?

Age? Group ranges from 25-28.

We wanted an apartment as it%26#39;s a more cosy feel to it than a hotel.

You might want to try posting or searching on craigslist.org (housing - NY - short term rentals). Alternatively, here is a rental company%26#39;s site: http://www.urbanliving.net

Shouldn%26#39;t have any problems with your budget, %26#39;tho as previously mentioned, I would consider adjoining suites in a fun hotel or the penthouse suites at some boutique hotels.

Have fun planning!

Thanks Little Traveller, I%26#39;ll check urban living.net.

The trendiest restaurants and clubs tend to be downtown in neighborhoods like Soho, Noho, Chelsea, Meatpacking district (on the edge of Greenwich Village), the village (Greenwich), Union Square area. 2 areas that are trendy with good places but I wouldn%26#39;t recommend for staying are the lower east side and the east village. I just think there are too many ';iffy'; streets for a tourist who doesn%26#39;t know their way around. Websites to look for apts include

citylightsnewyork.com

http://www.metro-home.com/

http://www.furnishedquarters.com/

subletinthecity.com

liveinnyc.com

But I agree that with that kind of budget you should consider a suite at one of the trendier hotels. The W Union Square would be a good place with a good location.

All that said, if you still want to stay on the upper eastside, the Surrey and perhaps the Mark Hotel are good options.

this is a good post about clubs and bars:

In general, when you%26#39;re here, by a copy of Time Out New York magazine. Very thorough listings.

Also, check out The L Magazine. It%26#39;s free.
